MMR Vaccine Safety

In light of the concerns recently raised about the safety of the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine, specifically whether the vaccine can cause Autism or Crohns Disease, here are some links that deal with these concerns.

We at Park Lodge Medical Centre believe that as yet there is no convincing evidence that the MMR vaccine causes Autism or Crohns disease. We continue to recommend that all children receive this vaccine. If you wish to discuss this further please make an appointment with one of the Doctors.

HRT Safety

The recent report published by the Journal of American Medicine Association by the Women's Health Innitiative raised issues about the safety of long term HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) use. They found that long term HRT use was associated with increased risk of Heart disease and Stroke but no increase in mortality from all causes (i.e. HRT protects against other causes of mortality). The following links discuss these concerns. (As yet I can't find many sites, I will add more as I find them - SHP)

It appears that this new information reinforces what was already known about long term use of HRT and emphasises the importance of regular reviews with you Doctor if you take HRT.
